Coaching Female Athletes

DATE: LOCATION: Effective training, competition and recovery programs promote strong athletic performances. Female athletes experience unique injuries and conditions that may interrupt their training and competition schedules. Although most of these injuries or conditions are preventable, some athletes will lose valuable training time or miss important competitions due to these injuries. This talk will discuss key features of creating a positive training environment for your female athletes and provide specific prevention strategies that will develop and maintain the health of female athletes. Presented by: Dr. Vicki Harber, Professor Emeritus, University of Alberta Vicki is a member of the CS4L Leadership Team is helping to advance physical literacy and long-term athlete development across Canada. In 2011 & 2012, Vicki was honoured by CAAWS as one of the Most Influential Women in Sport and Physical Activity. Her combined experiences from 2 Olympic teams (rowing athlete), researching the female athlete as an academic, coaching an elite girls soccer team and being a mother of 2 children have fuelled her passion to work with those who can make a difference in sport.
